Warning Signs

Early Signs of an Sports Injury

Muscle soreness or stiffness for a day or two after exercising are considered normal, however certain warning signs may signal a more serious injury that requires care from the Vanguard team. Early warning signs of sports injuries include:

  • Tenderness or soreness within a joint
  • Muscle soreness or stiffness lasting more than two days
  • Swelling or bruising
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Pain when bearing weight
  • Inability to raise your arms overhead without pain or discomfort

If you experience any of these warning signs, see the team immediately for an exam. Getting a diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible may reduce your risk of complications and may allow you to return to athletic activities sooner.
